Through the Tunnel by Dorris Lessing

1. Identify the setting of the story.
*On the beach in summer

2. Write the plotting of the story in 10-15 sentences.
* A young english boy (Jerry) and his widowed mother went to the beach to relax. the boy than decided to go and explore the beach,where he met a group of young boys and befiended them while his mother remained on shore. Him and the other were diving into the pool surrounded by large boulders. Soon after the other boys left so he to his mother and asked for some swimming goggles because he wanted to dive beneath the deep sea. The water was so salty that he couldn't see without swimming goggles. As he swam he saw a great big rock tufted lightly with greenish weed,he tried to enter but could not find the entrance to it. He spend about 10 minutes under water trying to catch his breathe and at night he bled heavily,felt weak and dizzy but would not not give up going through the tunnel.On one morning his mother told him they'll be going home but he thought of the tunnel,he needed to find a way in and a eay out through to the other side. He than decided to try it one more time,he finally entered and jewel-Breen water surrounded him. He bled heavily but persevered and counted until he saw a cracked rock with a tunnel of bright sunlight. He was filled with complacent smirks
3. Describe the main character in 10-15 sentences.
The main character Jerry,was a young english boy who lived with a single parent after the death of his father. He was young but yet very intelligent. At such a young age,he was optimistic as he wanted to get through the tunnel knowing that he wasn't able to,he still persevered. Jerry was a risk taker,although he knew the dangers of deep sea diving,he still attempted to get to the tunnel and find the entrance into the tunnel. During his wild goose chase,he bled heavily and some point he nearly lost conscienceness but his well-being didn't matter as much as exploring what had overwhelmed him. He was stubborn to an extent that he wouldn't listen to anything his mother said about the dangers of deep sea diving,he disobeyed his mother's commands and went ahead to achieve what he wanted to achieve. At such a tender age Jerry possessed certain qualities that made him distinct from his age group,he was intelligent,considerate and caring as he always looked out for his mother.
